(h) Blacon YC 6-1
After a slow start to the first match of the season the team
stabilised the game with their stronger tackling and slightly larger
size. Improving support play improved the service to Saddler who
responded with 5 goals, 2 in period 1, 3 in period 2. The team eased
off in period 3 with M Jones coming out of goal into attack , Saddler
dropping back into defence to replace Reeves who went in goal. Defence
was not as strong and conceded 1 goal to a persevering
Blacon side. Attack was less potent with Saddler in the rear but
service to the front was still fair, enabling Payne-Gill to get
his first of the season. Men of Match Saddler- goals, Reeves -effort,
strong tackling & support from midfield

(h) Waverton B Not Played, Waverton Could Not Raise a Team
21/09/02
(h) Waverton A 0-8
Back to earth with a bang, the team came up against an extremely
well organised Waverton side and, lacking the finishing skills of
Saddler and the midfield drive of Reeves were always going to struggle.
Matthew Jones did his best behind an outclassed defence and
an overrun midfield and , together with Finlay Pilkington, was probably
the player of the match for continued commitment - was brought out
of goal at the end for a rest and still kept running in attack.
A good contribution from Dominic Sirignano . Overall a lack of commitment
and cohesion overcame the team when the goals started going in -
something to work on in training, we will return!

(h) Berwick 1-11
A good side with a squad of 20 players and Friday night training
sessions on astroturf. They got off to a flying start and Tattenhall
never recovered from going 4 down in the first five minutes. Understandably
some players heads went down after the first 20 mins but notable
exceptions who kept going were Reeves, Pilkington, Matthew
Jones and Stuart Saddler , who was rewarded with a goal in the third
quarter.

(a) Upton Tournament
Blacon Tigers 1-0 Good battling performance - spectacular 20
yard lob by Reeves won the match Another good performance - substitutes
did their job well to hold it to nil-nil at half time , inspired
managerial decision to send Kerr up for a corner, he lashed in the
opener from 5 yards some interchanges between Lewis Jones and Stuart
Saddler culminated in Saddler scoring the second. Lewis Jones denied
by two excellent saves by the keeper and slid a shot narrowly
past the post.
Pulford
2-0 Lewis Reeves and Finlay Pilkington never stopped running,
excellent positional play at the back again from Kerr, Lewis Jones
rattled the bar with a 15 yarder, he has to score soon! In the end
we lost to a slightly more skilful and better organised side who
showed a little bit more desire to win.
Berwick
0-3 Unfortunately drawn against Berwick again - however some
managerial counselling before the game led to the best football
of the year being played in the first half, every team member
gave 110% we out competed Berwick in the first half. In the second
half their greater match experience and slightly better organisation
came through and they took advantage of some defensive disorganisation
when Tattenhall's defence came under pressure. Three nil a
little harsh given the effort the players put in. I f we can get
into the habit of playing the way we did in the first half of this
game all the time not many teams will beat us.
Berwick
(semi final) 0-3 New scene beat Berwick to win the Upton tournament
the week before . A good battling performance from Tattenhall in
the first 10 mins to come out nil nil . The team lost its
way following substitutions in the second period and conceded 3
quick goals due to lack of defensive concentration. They stabilised
the game in the last two halves with some last ditch defending.
In the end Tattenhall were found out by NewScene's superior organisation
and their own lack of strength in depth. 6 nil was slightly
hard on them but was the penalty for 10 mins lack of concentration.
Man of the match was Pilkington who never gave up, ran ceaselessly
and continued to control the ball and pass even when the team were
6-nil down.
12/10/02
(h) New Scene 0-6
A good performance , the 2 nil margin belied the effort put
in by the team and with some sharper finishing it could have been
4 or 5. Good work rate from all the players, in particular Lewis
Jones, Dominic Sirignano, Finlay Pilkington and Robbie Kerr. near
misses in attack from George Payne-Gill, Stuart Saddler (uncharacteristically
missed a sitter) and woodwork rattled (again) by Lewis Jones. An
excellent Lewis Reeves strike from a corner opened the scoring for
Tattenhall and a good finish later on in the game got Lewis Jones
off the mark for the season.

(a) Vicar's cross 2-0
A good game between two well matched teams resulted in a narrow
loss for Tattenhall. A tightly contested first quarter left it at
nil-nil but Tattenhall slipped behind in the second quarter to three
goals which, though well taken by Nomads, were the product of sloppy
defending with two Nomads forwards being allowed to break behind
the back line on all three occasions. The third quarter was more
even with a goal by Lewis Jones being cancelled out by a Nomads
goal to leave it 4.1 going into the last quarter. Now Tattenhall’s
player rotation policy started to wind up for the big finish and
good linking up front with Stuart Saddler allowed Lewis Jones to
complete his hat-trick with two well taken goals. Finlay Pilkington
then equalised with a well taken goal, his first of the season,
from a Lewis Jones corner. However it was not quite enough as Nomads
chipped Boughey to win it 5-4 with almost the final attack of the
game. A great game, everybody played, everyone enjoyed it (in spite
of losing) and great team spirit shown to go 4.1 down without arguing
or becoming demoralised and stage a great comeback.
02/11/02
(a) Chester Nomads 4-5
Undone by some slack goal keeping and a midfielder with a lethal
shot. Pulford competed more strongly in midfield for a large portion
of the game. The goals were there to be had though and with some
improved passing in the team more opportunities could have been
created and taken, no men of the match as the team had an off day!
16/11/02
(h) Pulford 4-7
Comfortable win against a smaller side. Tattenhall were better
organised than last week, good passing interchanges between L Jones
and Saddler up front and good service from Reeves in midfield
and and Pilkington at the back . A strong performance from
Reeves in midfield who competed for everything. Spectacular
dummy from Saddler in the second period that would have warranted
an admission fee. MOM, Lewis Jones for his improved passing and
increased work rate
23/11/02
Blacon Youth tigers (a) Cup 4-0
Tattenhall switched the team around to give the non-cup squad
players some practice, co-ordination was worse as a result and we
struggled to play good football on a muddy pitch on a cold wet day
against a team who packed players back behind the ball. The two
goals were from good finishes by Saddler and Lewis Jones and it
could have been four or five but for another good performance by
the Blacon keeper. Good reflex saves by Boughey and Matthew Jones
prevented Blacon coming away with a draw. MOM, Robbie Kerr, solid
at the back and good distribution of the ball. Also good performances
by Claire Saddler and Dominic Sirignano who gave everything
in awkward conditions.
30/11/02
Blacon Youth tigers (h) 2-0
A good team performance on a cold day - Tattenhall created many
chances against a weaker side with a good keeper. Goaless for the
first half hour but the team remained patient and never stopped
trying to play football. Finlay Pilkington broke the deadlock with
an excellent 15 yard strike into the top left hand corner he also
laid on the second for Stuart Saddler. Also a good game from Lewis
Jones who ran well on the wing and is achieving a much better balance
of running and passing . A good team effort with everyone giving
their best on a cold day.
7/12/02
Chester Nomads B (a) 2-0
Solid first quarter but the team played too deep and allowed
themselves to be put under pressure. Second quarter saw some of
Tattenhall's best football of the season to score three goals. Reeves
first, a powerful shot through the keepers legs was followed 1 minute
later by a clinical Stuart Saddler finish off a well hit cross from
Jones. The team went off the boil in quarters three and four with
slack marking and too many people chasing the ball. Upton got their
first after a period of pressure but were lucky to get a second
from a penalty after an unfortunate handball in front of goal from
Dominic Matthew’s. In an end to end last quarter John Boughey
made a great reflex save to maintain the lead and in
the end they ended up deserving winners after an exciting match

Waverton B (a) 2-7
New years hangover!, lack of commitment and poor organisation
gave Waverton some easy goals, only bright spots were a a goal from
a great great free kick from Lewis Jones and a well worked one two
between Lewis Jones and Stuart Saddler for the second. On the whole
a match better forgotten!
25/01/01
Waverton A (a) 0-6
Everyone tried their best and could be proud of the effort they
put in, but Tattenhall had no answer to a well organised Waverton
team.
01/02/2003
Berwick Rovers (h) 2-2
The most entertaining game of the season so far (by a short
head over the Chester Nomads match). Tattenhall went ahead in the
third minute through an amazing Lewis Jones right footed in swinger
from the left corner flag which deceived the keeper completely.
They held on comfortably to this to until the half way stage when
four of the team departed for a cubs hike leaving a skeleton squad
to hold the fort. The next quarter was like the alamo as Berwick
hit the post, the bar and put two balls over the hedge in their
attempts to score. The long expected equaliser came in the fourth
quarter but prompted a fantastic response from Tattenhall who refused
to be put off and threw everything into attack, culminating in the
moment of the season so far when Clare Sadler stuck a well hit 8
yarder to put Tattenhall in front . Berwick got a well deserved
equaliser with good break just before the end and 2:2 was the right
score as neither team deserved to lose. MOM's, Clare Saddler (goal),
John Boughey (some great through balls to Stuart), Dominic Sirignano
(last ditch tackling in the alamo).
08/02/2003
New Scene (h) 0-7
An unfortunate start with an unlucky own goal from John Boughey
after 3 mins as he attempted to head away a cross, however the team
stuck to their task against a well organised and skilful side to
come in only 1:0 down after 20 minutes. Substitutions in the third
quarter disorientated the side and they lost three quick goals.
The team tired and were caught three more times on the break in
the fourth quarter as they pushed forward looking for a consolation
goal. It would be easy to say the team would have done better without
the substitutions but in the end they were worn down by a side who
were better organised at the back and more skilful man for man when
going forward. MOM, Dominic Matthew’s for most improved performance.
Also a good game from James Helmers who applied himself well in
goal and in defence.
01/03/2003
Vicars Cross (h) 7-1
Comfortable win against a side which , though positionally was
well organised, was not as competitive in the tackle and lacked
a passing ability. No spectacular goals but some good passing by
Lewis Jones, John Boughey Stuart Saddler, Robbie Kerr and Finlay
Pilkington. Boughey particularly impressed with his through balls
to the front men.
08/03/2003
(h)-cup Berwick Rovers 1-3
A great team effort against a well organised side chosen from
a large squad and coached by a Liverpool youth coach., - Berwick
were a better passing side and had the balance of the play in the
first half going in 1 nil up at half time. Tattenhall upped their
game in the first 10 minutes of the second half and scored a well
deserved equaliser via George Payne-Gill, further pressure led to
three more major chances, Lewis Reeves rolled one along the bar
from a corner and shortly after there was a massive goal line skirmish
where it looked easier for Tattenhall to score than miss. The turning
point was a cynical professional foul where a Berwick player
rugby tackled Stuart Sadler when he had broken free with only the
keeper to beat. Soon after this Berwick managed to score a fortunate
goal direct from a corner and then snatched a third on the break
as Tattenhall threw men forward to try to get an equaliser in the
dying seconds. A great team performance from Tattenhall , particularly
the way they upped their game in the second half having been outplayed
in the first. Disappointing the foul was the turning point.
15/03/03
Chester Nomads B (h) –cup 8-1
A comfortable win which never really stretched the team , a
good performance by Finlay Pilkington who opened the scoring with
a well hit 15 yarder to settle the team down and then covered well
in defence as the rest of the team looked for goals, good running
on the wing by Lewis Jones set up several of the teams goals, good
positional play in the area by Stuart Sadler and George Payne-Gill
enabled them to increase their seasons' tally with some excellent
poaching (hat trick for Saddler). The goal of the match was a well
hit 5 yard strike by Saddler after a great run up the wing and pass
by Lewis Reeves. Only downside was a lack of effort and defensive
tracking back at times as the match was too easy. Pulford will be
tougher next week!
22/03/03
Pulford (h) 4-2
The best team performance of the season against a strong Pulford
team . Great running on the wing by Lewis Jones , strong tackling
in midfield by Lewis Reeves , Finlay Pilkington and George Payne-Gill,
Heroic defence by Robbie Kerr (one goal line clearance late on in
the fourth quarter was spectacular) some great goal poaching by
the four scorers and excellent supporting play by every other
member of the team. It was a pleasure to see the team attacking
in numbers and tracking back to pick up their men. A great performance
and an exciting match to watch against a team who never gave up.
29/03/03
Blacon Youth Tigers (a) 7-0
The starting line up was changed from the usual against one
of the weaker teams . Good performances by Dominic Matthew’s , who
did everything but score, and Lewis Reeves, who scored a great solo
goal, beating 4 men and placing the ball into the right hand corner
of the net. Robbie Kerr took full advantage of a run in attack to
bag 2 goals. Tattenhall rang the changes for the first three quarters
and went into the final quarter 3-nil up. Reverting to the
usual starting line-up for the last ten minutes brought 4 more goals
in rapid succession. A good performance by everyone in the team
, as the weather warms up the play improves! Not a fantastically
well matched competition but an opportunity to give all the players
a good run, which they appreciated - We took some defensive risks
and got away with them against a poor finishing team. we will need
to pay more attention to detail against Chester Nomads next week!
05/04/2003
Chester Nomads B (h) 3-0
Tattenhall were always on top but failed to press home the advantage
due to a couple of 'missed sitters' and a low work rate from too
many of the players . Reeves scrambled a goal from a Lewis Jones
shot in the first period and that was it until the fourth Period,
though the bar and post were hit twice in between . L Jones, Reeves,
Sadler and in particular Pilkington were the only ones who sustained
a reasonable work rate through the game. Good passing was at a premium
and far to many members of the team wanted to surge forward without
a thought for defence .Two goals in the fourth period by Reeves
made the score line respectable, the second a well struck header
off a Lewis Jones corner. Tattenhall will have to show more commitment
and less Prima Donna behaviour against Upton and Chester Nomads
A.. MOM, Reeves for the goals , L Jones for providing them, M Jones
for holding his position and tackling safely and C Sadler for sticking
to her role . Pilkington had by far the best work rate but
was caught out of position too often.
26/04/03
Upton Blues (a) 3-7
Some good individual play by Lewis Jones and a hat trick by
Stuart Saddler were not enough to match an Upton side which played
together better as a team and demonstrated some excellent shooting.
While man for man they were not that much more skilful, the Upton
side competed better as a team, passing and moving for one another,
tracking back and defending in numbers and tackling more determinedly
and to better effect. In spite of this Tattenhall made plenty of
chances with good individual runs and only some wayward shooting
prevented the scores being much closer. man of the match was Matthew
Jones for some good tackling and passing.
03/05/2003
Upton Blacks (a) 4-6
The team fell asleep in the first 5 mins and were two goals
down before they woke up. Some great goal keeping by George Payne-Gill
kept them in the game at 2-0 after some poor defending . Upton were
still on top and extended the lead to three before Sadler opened
the Tattenhall account with a header from a well taken corner. Tattenhall
then went 4-1 down but launched a rousing recovery to end the third
period at 4-4 following an excellent Lewis Jones hat trick . Unfortunately
they weren't able to hold their momentum and Upton upped their game
to pinch two goals in the final quarter but the real damage had
been done by the slow start that left Tattenhall always chasing
the game. MOM Stuart Saddler for effort, Lewis Jones for finishing.
10/05/2003
Chester Nomads A (h) 2-3
Nomads edged it with a slightly better team performance than
Tattenhall and several high class saves by their keeper . Tattenhall
went ahead in the first quarter through a looped shot over the keeper
by Saddler. They had further chances in the first and early in the
2nd quarters, notably a great header by Reeves from a corner, near
misses from Payne-Gill, Pilkington ,Saddler and in particular a
great save from a Reeves power shot. Nomads superior passing
started to put Tattenhall under prolonged pressure and they got
their reward with three goals . Tattenhall came back well in the
fourth quarter following the return of Saddler both he and
Lewis Jones went close before Saddler snatched a consolation goal
from a poor clearance by the keeper on the stroke of full time.
This was a match Tattenhall could have won with slightly better
passing and support play.

academy standard side.
Upton
Blues 1-2 Tightly contested game with chances at both ends ,
Tattenhall took the lead through Jones but blues came back after
a period of pressure when Tattenhall went off the boil for 5 mins.
There then followed a period of end to end stuff which culminated
in an Upton substitute snatching the winner with a header from a
corner. In the end Tattenhall were let down by their low work rate
in the later stages oft he game
Chester
Nomads 2-0 The team were much more focussed from the start .
Lewis Jones again put Tattenhall ahead with a solo run after a good
through ball from Reeves. There was some doubt from the Nomads team
whether the ball had crossed the line but any doubt about Tattenhall’s
right to the points was dismissed 5 mins from time when Lewis Jones,
who had been a thorn in Nomads side the whole game, won a free kick
on the right and curled in an unstoppable thunderbolt from
15 yards.
New
Scene A 1-3 With their academy standard set up. New Scene always
looked odds on to win this match against 'the country boys' and
quickly went 2 goals up with some good individual and team play.
Tattenhall kept going well with Lewis Jones who had a fine tournament
all through , playing as the lone striker and conjuring up
a fantastic goal after beating 3 new Scene defenders with no support
within 20 yards. This injected new life into Tattenhall and dented
New Scene's confidence for the mid part of the game Tattenhall had
them rocking . NewScene caught them on the break for a third late
on as Tattenhall threw men forward for the equaliser. Finlay Pilkington
almost snatched a spectacular consolation goal a minute from time
with a 10 yard thunderbolt that brought out an excellent save from
the keeper.
